YMCA programs help residents stay active

Early this spring, I was doing what every parent does before school lets out: trying to find an inexpensive way to keep my child active. As a result, I rejoined the Shelby County YMCA. Looking through their programs, I came upon “tri-athlete” training for all age groups. I thought this would be a perfect way to keep him in shape, and it would provide a little bit of everything for him.

This program is open to anyone who would like to take on this challenge. The trainers are enthusiastic and very positive in their training techniques. They have a professional triathlete and the Greystone Swimming Coach training the group for this program.

My child has gone from being a so-so swimmer to being able to do 20 laps in the pool. He has gone from being a so-so bike rider to being able to ride difficult hills, and of course his running skills have improved as well.

Kudos to the Shelby YMCA for continuing to find good programs to keep us all fit. I hope that they will continue to offer this program!
