Forrest Slater

Forrest Kyle Slater, age 80, of Alabaster died Wednesday, July 1, 2009. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster and a 32nd Degree Mason, Zamora Temple.
Mr. Slater served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, during which he was in the AFASWP Special Weapons 1094th Reporting Squadron, based in Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Slater was preceded in death by one son, Linn Matthew Slater. Survivors include Forrest’s loving wife, Ila Linn Slater; two sons, Mark Kyle (Courtney) Slater and Forrest Michael Slater; three sisters, Rose Marsh, Olivene Cornelius, and Forresteene Brown; seven grandchildren, Amber Slater, Matthew Slater, Joshua Slater, Raven Slater, Brittany Slater, Andrew Slater, and Hannah Slater; and three great-grandchildren, Connor Nethery, Lucy Nethery and Maddie Nethery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m.–2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. The funeral will be the same day at 2 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel in Pelham with Rev. Joe Raines officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Amedisys Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Alabaster.
