DeAnna McCarley Smith of Calera has been named vice president for business affairs at the University of Montevallo. Her appointment was effective July 1.

Smith, a certified public accountant and internal auditor, has been UM director of budget and assistant treasurer since April 2008. She previously worked for Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. Smith graduated from UM in 1999 with a degree in business administration.
