The free children’s personal safety and women’s rape aggression defense classes to be held Meadow View Elementary School beginning July 13 have been canceled, said Officer Jeff Weaver of the Alabaster Police Department.

A certified instructor from radKids, a Massachusetts-based non-profit committed to helping children recognize, avoid and escape violence or abuse, was to teach self-defense techniques to resist against abduction, bullying and uncomfortable touch. Fire and gun safety and out and about safety were to be discussed.

The two-hour class was to be offered to children ages 5-10.

The rape aggression defense class, slated to begin July 20, was aimed at women age 16 and older.

Weaver said there are no plans to reschedule. He hopes to offer the classes next year.
