Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama laid off 151 workers statewide at the end of June, according to a company press release.

The 151 workers represent 4 percent of the company’s total workforce.

“This initiative is in response to current economic conditions, which have resulted in job losses throughout the state,” the release states.

Laid off workers received severance packages and assistance in finding other jobs.

The company’s headquarters are located on Riverchase Parkway in Hoover.
