Funeral service for James H. Elrod, age 88, of Chelsea, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bolton Funeral Home.
Mr. Elrod, who was a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at a local hospital, was born on July 18, 1921 in Birmingham. Mr. Elrod retired from Barber dairy after 42 years of service. He was an Army veteran in World War II and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Elrod; great-grandson, James Casey Elrod; and a half-brother, Jessie Johnson.
He is survived by his sons, James (Carol) Elrod Jr. of Riverside and Steve (Pat) Elrod of Mobile; daughter, Wannie Watkins of Chelsea; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
