According to an e–mail sent to parents by board member Bo Winslett, Shelby Academy will not open its doors this fall.

“Because of low enrollment and insufficient funding, it is with heavy hearts the board must announce its decision to not open Shelby Academy for the 2009-2010 year,” the e–mail said.

Winslett asked that parents e–mail the school office at office@shelbyacademy.net to have their children’s information mailed to new schools.

Winslett also informed parents that Shelby Academy’s Board of Trustees and alumni association would work to secure funding to pay debts owed.

It said alumni and the board hope to work on a plan to reopen the school in 2010.
