Superior Bank officials are collecting supplies for Chelsea schools through the month of August.

The Chelsea branch of the bank has a drop-off point set up for people who want to donate school supplies. At the end of the drive, the supplies will be divided and dropped off at the four Chelsea schools: Chelsea Park Elementary, Chelsea Intermediate, Chelsea Middle and Chelsea High.

Branch manager Jaime Echols said the drive started in July and will go through Aug. 31. Supplies can be dropped off between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

Echols said supplies could be earmarked for certain schools if people wish.

“If they tell us they want something to go to a certain school, then yes, we’ll make sure it goes to that school,” she said. “If they just come in and drop it in a box, then we’ll decide where they go.”

She said the bank prefers people to bring in school supplies, but monetary donations will also be accepted. Bank employees would likely use any donated funds to purchase school supplies.

“We want people to know their donations are being used wisely,” Echols said.

The school supplies drive is one of Superior Bank’s community outreach programs.

“We try to stay very involved in the community, and it is just that time of year,” she said. “This is just a way we thought we could give back to the community.”

Donations have already been coming in from the community.

“People appreciate that a local business is getting involved,” she said.
