Columbiana Middle School student Tempest Cantrell attended the Technology Student Association’s conference in Dever, Colo. June 28-July 2. Cantrell serves as the local chapter president and as the State Reporter. While in Denver, she participated in the Dragster Design Challenge and the Digital Photography Challenge.

Cantrell’s advisor, Tony Ferguson, was named the Alabama Middle School Advisor of the year. He is currently serving a tour of duty in Iraq, so Cantrell accepted the award for him. The highlight of her trip, though, was shaking hands and meeting former President Jimmy Carter, who was traveling to Denver as well. Traveling with Cantrell were her grandparents Ray and Linda Cantrell.
