Shelby Baptist Medical Center in partnership with Boy Scouts of America is launching a new program for students interested in health care careers.

The program, titled Explorer, will kick off at Shelby Baptist Sept. 10, and is open to Shelby County residents ages 14-21.

The annual cost is $10 per student, and the program hosts monthly events throughout the school years.

Blake Allison, Baptist Health System’s executive director of outpatient services and coordinator of the Explorer program, said students will have the chance to interact with various hospital entities.

“As an Explorer, students will learn the diversity of careers available in the health care arena and interact with leadership from all areas of the hospital such as physicians, nursing and administration,” Allison said. “In addition, they will also learn about the career options available in a diverse health care workforce and the chance to be awarded a college scholarship.”
