We have all seen the renovation taking place as the former LadyWorks Fitness on Highway 31 transforms itself into a retail location, but what is really going on behind those doors?

Paint is being applied, the lobby is being renovated and an entire family is hard at work making one member’s “plan B” a reality.

Marina Carey is a hard–working real estate agent who always has a backup plan. When she learned the LadyWorks Fitness building was available, she could not pass up the opportunity.

Having always envisioned a resale business as an alternative way to make a living, Carey is now hard at work to open the resale and consignment shop.

Encore Resales is slated to have a grand opening Saturday, Aug. 29. With resale items ranging from furniture to clothing, there is a little something for everyone. Carey, who has been working on this idea since she gained the space in July, is anxious to get the space completed.

“We are still taking donations and consignments,” Carey said. “We have a lot of space to fill.”

Leaving the gifted mirrors along the walls adds to the reality that the space is enormous. With a room for children’s clothes, another for women’s and men’s, a large space for at least 20 new and used retail booths, and a back room donned “the bargain room,” there is sure to be a lot to look at.

Carey already has a good group of interested booth vendors who will offer items like collegiate platters and Christmas ornaments, watercolor artwork, scented diffusers, gently-used office furniture and more.

The consignment offers a 40/60 split with consigners getting 60 percent of the sales, while donations provide an easy tax-deductible option.

Carey is working to get local non-profits on board to share the donation income with.

“The money coming in will stay here,” Carey said. “That is what makes shopping here different.”

With plans to display how much is raised each month for the chosen non-profits, Carey wants to let her shoppers know what good they are bringing to the community.

“Encore provides a win-win situation for Pelham and the surrounding area,” Carey said.
