Funeral service for Bernice E. Brasher, 95, of Shelby, will be at 2 p.m., Sept. 9, 2009, at Bolton Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Brasher and the Rev. Tom Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Garden of Rest (New Shelby Cemetery). Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Bernice passed away on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009. Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong resident of Shelby and the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Shelby. She married Ernest T. Brasher in 1931 and was his loving wife until his death in 1994. Bernice enjoyed quilting, needlework, cooking, fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. In practicing her Christian faith, she was quick to serve and help others in the community.
Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Ellis Brasher and her grandchild, Gary Brasher. Survivors are her son, Bill Brasher; sister, Dolly McCombs; granddaughters, Lisa Brasher, Beverly Brasher Henson; grandsons, Jon Brasher, Chris Brasher and Gregg Brasher; and her nine great-grandchildren.
