Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos will be honored at the annual Court Appointed Special Advocates Roast Oct. 6.

The event will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the roast at 6:30 p.m.

Many of Petelos’ closest friends and political advisers will be there to offer a humorous take on the mayor’s political career, including his wife, Teresa.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman will serve as the master of ceremonies.

Chapman said Petelos was chosen because of his record in government as a state legislator, Director of the Department of Human Resources and then as Hoover mayor.

“Mayor Petelos has been an outstanding mayor in one of the largest cities in our state,” she said. “We felt that he would be an attribute for our organization and for the work we do.”

Those interested in attending may purchase open seating tickets for $150 per person or reserved corporate tables for six people for $1,500.

The items being auctioned include weekend getaways to Destin, Fla., golf packages, wine, dinner packages, tickets to the Talladega Speedway, and Alabama and Auburn football tickets.

Chapman said the event is important to CASA because it’s the largest fundraiser of the year.

“Our board of directors has always felt that we should be our own largest contributor before we ask for additional funding,” she said. “And we’ve always held to that practice, that we ask ourselves before we ask other people to help us.”

The Court Appointed Special Advocates is a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains volunteers to go through the court process with abused and neglected children.

CASA works in conjunction with Judge Jim Kramer’s Shelby County Juvenile Court to assist in making sure that the children there are represented well and that their best interests are met.
