Massaging away stress for a cause

Massage Envy in Greystone participated Sept. 15 in a nationwide event, Massage for the Cure, at its Lee Branch location. Massage Envy clinics across the country offered therapeutic massage sessions.

A portion of the cost for local services was given to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support breast cancer research, cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives at the Birmingham affiliate.

Massage for the Cure has been so successful on our regional level they decided to launch the program nationally. Massage Envy exceeded this amount, raising over $800,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“As a business owner I’m proud to benefit Susan B. Komen for the Cure, especially in a time of weak economy, when charities are being funded less,” Massage Envy owner at Lee Branch Mike Brooks said. “Helping feels really good. Every employee was excited and grateful to be a part of this initiative.”

Some may overlook Massage Envy as a source for a great massage, since spas are plentiful in Greystone. The lobby is fresh, airy, nearly clinical in cleanliness, but with soothing music and a water feature.

The therapy area is as clean as a surgical suite. Therapists are professional and capable. Therapist Brandon Wilemon holds the title of Regional Therapist of the Year. Wilemon gave a massage so relaxing I felt like a spaghetti noodle an hour later.

Science is finally admitting the many health benefits of massage. Anyone can tell it relieves stress and promotes relaxation, which strengthens immune system and lower blood pressure.

Massage improves range of motion and flexibility helping prevent injury and pain. It relaxes tense muscles, relieving joint pain and tension headaches. Massage aids blood and lymph circulation, both vital to healing of all kinds.

Massage Envy has made getting a massage affordable. They offer an introductory price of $39 for one hour, and a reduced rate membership is offered. Some health contracts will pay for services.

Massage Envy’s professional therapists customize for a client’s needs, offering Swedish, deep tissue, trigger points, sports, myofascial, prenatal and reflexology massages. They are open weeknights and weekends to serve valued customers. For more information, call 408-1882 to make massage part of your wellness plan.
