Two people were transported to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a wreck involving a school bus near downtown Alabaster.

The wreck occurred at about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday when a vehicle struck the back of a school bus full of elementary and intermediate school students, according to Jerry Davidson, transportation coordinator for Alabaster schools.

The collision happened near the intersection of Thompson Road and First Avenue West.

“The bus had just left school, so it was full of kids,” Davidson said. “I know they transported one of the kids on the bus, but I don’t think they said there were any serious injuries.

“One of the passengers in the car was also transported, but I don’t know they were injured badly or not,” Davidson added.

As of 4:10 p.m., the Alabaster Police Department had not released any information regarding the wreck. We will post more information as it becomes available.
