Oak Mountain High School was shut out 27-0 at Hoover High School in a home game at Buccaneers Stadium.

The Eagles played the home game at Hoover because Oak Mountain’s home field at Heardmont Park was unplayable with the amount of heavy rainfall during the week.

Oak Mountain struggled as running back Ross Ware had his worst rushing game of the year and quarterback Paul Angel couldn’t get an air attack going.

Ware finished with 15 yards on 13 carries and Angel passed for only 58 yards in the loss.

First-year Oak Mountain head coach Jeff Harris said the offense didn’t provide any help for the defense Friday night.

“Our defense played very, very well,” Harris said. “The offense put the defense in a bad situation.We threw a pick late in the second quarter and (Hoover) went up 17-0, when it should have been 10-0 and we would have had a chance in the second half. That hurt us.”

Despite the loss, Harris did find a few positives in his team’s effort.

“Our kids played hard for four quarters,” Harris said. “We’ve got to come up with some success on offense. We’ve got to move the chains. Our defense was on the field for way too long.”
