Forecasted rainy weather and muddy conditions throughout Shelby County Oct. 2 has led to a new date for Alabaster’s Fall Fling.

The festival originally was scheduled to take place Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. until noon at Alabaster’s Veterans’ Park, but was postponed until Oct. 16 due to the threat of inclement weather.

“We just made the call to reschedule it until Oct. 16 due to the weather forecast,” said Alicia Walters, therapeutic manager for the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department.

“If we went ahead and held the Fall Fling and it got rained out, it would be a huge missed opportunity for the students,” Walters said. “They would miss out on a lot of fun, and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

The Fall Fling each year is held at the park for Shelby County students with disabilities. This year, the festival will feature fishing, craft sessions, drum lessons, face painting and several other activities.
