Alabaster seeking instructor for senior computer classes

Alabaster Parks and Recreation officials are seeking a community volunteer to teach weekly senior computer classes at the city’s senior center.

The volunteer would teach basic computer skills classes each week to a small group of Alabaster seniors, explained Alicia Walters, senior and therapeutic manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.

“We are really pretty flexible,” Walters said. “We are really looking for someone who has a wide range of basic computer skills.

“We need someone to teach things like how to turn on the computer, surfing the Internet and just basic things like that across the board,” Walters added. “We only have five computers, so it won’t be a huge class.”

The classes now are held at 10 a.m., but the times can be adjusted, Walters explained.

“Some people say they can teach night classes, but we usually try to have the classes during regular senior center hours, which are 8 a.m.-1 p.m.,” Walters added. “And one class a week is ideal, but, again, we are flexible.”

To volunteer to teach the classes, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 664-6840.
