Montevallo picks up homecoming win over Marbury

Montevallo High School rushed for 281 yards, while limiting Marbury to 26 yards on the ground, as the Bulldogs picked up a 20-7 win over their region foe on homecoming night.

Quarterback Kevin Callender rushed for 118 yards and passed for 76 yards in the win. Garrius Chappell added 86 rushing yards and a touchdown. Brandon Lilly caught seven passes for 69 yards.

Chappell scored on a 1-yard run with 9:52 remaining in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead after Brett Grey’s extra point.

Callender rushed for a 60-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Grey added the extra point to push the lead to 14-0. R.J. Scaife capped the scoring for Montevallo with a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Marbury scored on a 1-yard run with 14 seconds left for its only touchdown in the game.

Montevallo (4-3 overall, 3-2 in Class 3A, Region 3) travels to Montgomery Academy on Oct. 16 for another Region 3 contest.
