The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors who are semifinalists in the 46th-annual National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Local semifinalists include: Cydney Lawson of Oak Mountain High School, Melanie Harris of Spain Park High School and Yedoye Travis of Indian Springs School.
