Calera set to host regional volleyball tournament

After finishing as the runner-up in the Class 4A, Area 7 volleyball tournament Oct. 13, the Calera Eagles will host a regional volleyball tournament Saturday.

The Eagles will face Ramsay at 11:15 a.m. in the quarterfinal round. Semifinals are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the championship game will take place at 4 p.m.

Fresh off a Class 6A, Area 11 championship, the Pelham Panthers will travel to Tuscaloosa County High School for a regional tournament Oct. 17.

Oak Mountain, which won the Class 6A, Area 10 championship, and Thompson will join the Panthers for the regional tournament Saturday.

The Panthers will face Mountain Brook at 10 a.m, while Oak Mountain will face Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa at the same time. Thompson will face Homewood at 11:15 a.m.

Briarwood Christian, which won the Class 5A, Area 8 title, will face Shelby County at 10 a.m. in a Class 5A regional tournament at Catholic High School in Montgomery.

Montevallo will face Trinity at 10 a.m. in a Class 3A regional tournament at Montgomery Academy.

The top four teams at each regional tournament will qualify for the sub-state round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs Oct. 22.
