Fall keeps things lively around town

The remainder of the fall promises exciting happenings in Montevallo. Mark your calendar now.

The beautiful watercolors of Jeanette Crew are displayed in the Parnell Memorial Library Gallery and will remain there until Nov. 30.

At the University of Montevallo on Oct. 22 there will be the annual alumni fish fry. Tickets can be ordered at 665-6215.

UM offers a concert by the Wind Ensemble on Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m. in Palmer, the production “Opera Scenes” on Oct. 23–24 at 7:30 p.m. in LeBaron, and a Concert Choir performance on Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in LeBaron. There is no charge for any of these.

The Recreation Board’s “Critters by the Creek” is set for Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2-5 p.m. Everyone and their pets are invited to come in Halloween costumes and to bring donations of supplies and food for the Humane Society. There will be competitions and prizes. Information: 665-5936.

All of the kids are looking forward to the annual “Hometown Halloween” on Friday, Oct. 30. Trick or treat on Main Street will begin at 3 p.m. and at 4:30 Mr. Mac will entertain with “Spooky Tales” at Parnell Library.

More fun offered on that Friday will be frightening storytelling at UM’s Carmichael Library beginning at 7 p.m. There will also be walking tours with the ghost stories associated with the campus. Information: 665-6100.

There is always a great game in Montevallo. The UM men’s’ basketball season begins with the Nov. 4 exhibition contest in Tuscaloosa with the University of Alabama. The schedule includes five games against NCAA Division II Tournament participants and one nationally televised game.

On campus this fall there are also competitions of women’s basketball and volleyball and of men’s and women’s soccer. For schedule information go to Montevallo.edu and click on “News and Events” or Athletics.

The remaining two MHS football games are away: Trinity on Oct. 23 and Vincent on the 30th. The boys and girls’ basketball season begins on Nov. 27.

Highlights of November offerings at UM are the Choral Festival Concert in Palmer at 2 p.m. on the 7th, and the Jazz Ensemble concert in Palmer on the 19th at 7:30. Both are free.

The family-friendly musical “Nunsense” by the Montevallo Main Street Players is planned for Nov. 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Parnell Library Theatre.

There will be lots of folks to greet Santa Claus as he makes his first appearance in town at the Christmas parade at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19.
