Evangel Christian posts 68-0 homecoming victory

Evangel Christian School defeated Evangel Family Christian 68-0 on homecoming Friday.

Evangel Family Christian was picked off by Hunter Burridge and Burridge returned the interception 21 yards to set up his 15-yard touchdown run. Jakan Sylestine ran 26 yards for a touchdown and the extra point by Stephen Davis capped the scoring for the Lightning in the first quarter.

The second quarter began with a 1-yard touchdown run by Sylestine. Evangel forced a fumble and Sylestine again ran it in from one yard out. Burridge scored another rushing touchdown and Stephen Davis kicked the extra point to give Evangel a 35-0 lead. Sylestine capped the scoring in the first half with a 16-yard touchdown run to extend the Evangel lead to 41-0.

Sylestine ran for a 31-yard touchdown, which was his fifth touchdown of the evening, in the third quarter.

Burridge rushed for a 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 55-0. A. J. Richardson ran from 15 yards out for a touchdown. With no time left, Luke Miller intercepted a pass and returned it 67 yards for the final touchdown.

Josh Flanders led the defense with 11 tackles, followed by Luke Miller with nine. Evangel Christian plays Hope Christian in Columbiana at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 for the final regular season game for both teams.
