Officers from the Hoover Police Department arrested two suspects Nov. 4 following a recent robbery at the Publix on Doug Baker Boulevard.

Police arrested Colby Goins, 18, of Childersburg, along with a 16-year-old from Sylacauga, in the Oct. 28 robbery.

According to police, the victim, who is 82, was loading groceries into her vehicle at approximately 7:45 p.m. when the two suspects drove up and asked her for directions.

As the victim approached the suspects’ vehicle, Goins grabbed her purse, and the suspects drove off.

While the suspects were fleeing the scene, the victim became entangled with her purse, which led to her being thrown to the ground and suffering several broken bones and lacerations.

Captain Jim Coker of the Hoover Police Department said the victim was immediately hospitalized and is now recovering at home.

The arrests were made following an investigation by the Hoover Police Department with the help of officers from the Sylacauga and Childersburg police departments.

Coker said the 16-year-old is being charged as an adult due to the seriousness of the crime and because the victim sustained serious injuries. His name is being withheld pending court action.

Goins is being held on $90,000 total bond on charges of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault.

Both suspects are being held in the Shelby County Jail.
