Jim ‘N Nick’s celebrates a year

Nov. 11 marks the First Anniversary of Jim ‘N Nick’s Alabaster.

The Birmingham-based, locally owned restaurant is celebrating the whole week of Nov. 9-13 by introducing its new menu, which touts not only new items, such as a double decker sandwich, but also features lower pricing on many favorites.

Paul Liollio, Local Owner of Jim ‘N Nick’s Alabaster, said such steps should help customers enjoy their meal even more.

“We’re making it more affordable because we hope to see our guests more often. Now more than ever, people need a place to go and enjoy themselves and we want to be that place,” he said. “And, with people eating out less we think they should expect more, so we haven’t changed any of our standards. Everything is still scratch-made everyday. Instead of short-cuts, we’ve spent the last year renegotiating with our suppliers.

Since Jim ‘N Nick’s markets by word-of-mouth and here-and-now performance rather than expensive advertisements, we’ve had a little more wiggle room than most out there and we’re now able to pass it on to our guests.”

The restaurant will also feature Jim ‘N Nick’s “Pig Rig,” which is a big traveling smoker the company takes on the road to large events, so they can stay true to their philosophy of making sure the food is at its freshest.

On Nov. 11, from noon-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m., staff on the rig will be handing out free samples of their new barbecue tacos, or as Jim ‘N Nick’s describes them, “tacos with an authentic Southern soul.” The tacos are another addition to the new menu and will be served on Tuesdays beginning later this fall.

Since giving back to the community is a key element in Jim ‘N Nick’s culture, the company is bringing back the brownies and ice cream they served to raise money in August for Junior Achievement.

“The brownies and ice cream were such a hit!” Liollio said. “And raising over $800 for Junior Achievement was such a reward for our staff. Once our guests saw the brownies, they just had to have them, despite how much barbecue they just ate.”

Donations for the brownies will be contributed to the Greater Shelby County Education Foundation.
