Adopting new lives

It’s November again and I am wondering where this year has gone. It seems like just yesterday that I was celebrating the holiday season with my family and ringing in the New Year. Now, it’s time to do it again!

November is a special time for all of us as we celebrate Thanksgiving.

We have so much to be thankful for but sometimes we have to focus on the good things in our lives and try to set the unpleasant things aside.

Speaking from experience, that can be hard to do. I am thankful for my friends, my family and the opportunities to help people and make new friends that have been presented to me. Every day, my friends and family help me see my many blessings.

In the Probate Office, November brings another special day, National Adoption Day.

We will join 14 children with their adoptive parents and legally recognize new, loving families on this special day.

We will celebrate these new families with food, fun and pictures; it will be a great day.

As you may know, I was adopted by my parents when I was an infant so I am very aware of how important this event is in the life of each child and his or her parents.

The day of adoption is the gateway day to a new life for the kids; a life of love and opportunity.

As I reflect on the love and opportunities that have come my way during my life, I anticipate the futures of the kids being adopted. Is there anything more rewarding than offering a child a future in a warm, loving home?

When you gather around your table and offer your prayer of Thanksgiving, remember these new families.

Give thanks for these children and all of the joy they will bring their new parents. Give thanks for the parents and the love, hopes and dreams they are giving their children.

And, as you think of these adoptions, think about your own family and give thanks for those we often take for granted.
