Big hair makes comeback this fall

Every fall, something happens to our hair.

Sure the humidity leaves and we all have a little easier time with styling, but we also start looking to celebrities to find the hottest looks of fall.

Sometimes it is long hair, sometimes it is layers, but this year, it is BIG.

No, not quite 1980s BIG, but big nonetheless.

For seasons now, women have been stuck on the sleek and straight trends that had us flocking to get blowouts at the salon, products to weigh our tresses down or the most innovative straighter to fry it flat.

For this fall, though, your strands can rejoice because natural looks are back in favor. I sat down with Amy Montgomery, owner of Sh Salon in Helena to get the dish on what to look for in the Fall with hair.

“Layers and curls are big along with a 80s style look, but softer,” Montgomery says. An expert when it comes to all types of hair, she laughs at where she finds her inspiration for the upcoming season.

“Believe it or not, I look at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.” Montgomery finds that what is featured in the fashion show is often what is requested in her salon.

“Everyone has started going for an easier style that is more versatile to their lifestyles,” Montgomery adds. “We have seen a switch from celebrity requests like Victoria Beckham to natural waves like Reese Witherspoon or Kim Kardashian.”

In fact for high school homecomings this fall, the girls at Sh Salon were asked to do more loose curls than the traditional up-dos.

In addition to the softer look, those who color their hair are starting to come in and ask to darken up.

“We have a lot of requests for richer tones like deep chocolates, praline and mocha. And everyone is searching to get shine.”

Sh Salon offers Powerdose treatments from L’Oréal Professionnel line.

The three minute treatment adds shine and protein to hair while locking in moisture.

With specialized formulas for damaged hair, colored hair, volume and density, the treatments run anywhere between $12 and $14.

Other products for the fall and winter season suggested by Montgomery are Liss Ardent Thermal Reconstructing Creme, Liss Shine Protecting Serum, and the L’Oréal HOMME line for men.

Ranked by Salon Centric/L’Oréal as one of the top 25 salons in the region, Sh Salon offers evening and weekend appointments for those with busy schedules.
