Preston Brasher

Funeral service for Preston Brasher, age 78, of Shelby, will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Shelby. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the Bolton Funeral Home.
Mr. Brasher, who passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009, was born September 10, 1931, in Shelby.
Mr. Brasher participated in the space program in Huntsville, during the Apollo era. He was an engineer on the Saturn 5 and Skylab development teams.
Mr. Brasher was an accomplished musician with the guitar, his favorite instrument. He grew up as part of a musical family, singing in gospel quartets and other ensembles. His family are also known as country and bluegrass musicians.
Mr. Brasher was an active member of FBC of Shelby where he taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, served as Director of Sunday School and Discipleship Training, and, at the time of his illness, was music director. He was also an ordained Deacon.
Mr. Brasher is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Nellie Brasher; sisters, Mary Nell Lee, Elnora Black; brothers, Edward, Lewis, Thomas, and Robert Brasher.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Walton Brasher; sons, Larry Dean Brasher of Huntsville, Alan Dale (Jacquie) Brasher of Swainsboro, Ga.; grandson, Joseph Dean Brasher, and his mother, Cindi Knott Brasher, of Huntsville; brother, Howard (Pattie) Brasher; sisters, Lanice Brasher, Joan (Richard) Harless; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
