Montevallo High School head football coach Mike Reynolds is stepping down from his position after one season at the school, citing “a difference in philosophy” with the Montevalllo administration.

“Officially, I’ll be stepping down,” Reynolds said Thursday morning. “I have a different philosophy and plan for the program than what the administration had. There are no hard feelings.”

Montevallo athletic director Brent McCaleb did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment Thursday.

Reynolds led the Bulldogs to a 4-7 record and an appearance in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A playoffs in his lone season. Montevallo fell to Cordova in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Reynolds, who came to Montevallo after serving as an assistant coach at Oak Mountain under former Eagles’ head coach Jerry Hood, said he will remain as a physical education teacher at the school for the rest of the 2009-2010 academic year. Meanwhile, he will be looking for other coaching opportunities for next year.

“I’ll be looking for coaching opportunities as they open up,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds said he has a great relationship with the rest of the athletic staff at Montevallo.

“It was a great learning experience,” Reynolds said. “These are good people to work with. Sometimes in life people have different philosophies. It’s nothing personal.”
