The Shelby County Salvation Army is partnering with chambers of commerce throughout the county to help needy children this Christmas season.

Salvation Army officials are urging residents and chamber members to drop off new, unwrapped clothing items at chamber of commerce offices in Columbiana, Calera, Pelham and Montevallo.

The donations will be used to provide clothing for area children on the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program list. As of Nov. 24, the program included more than 500 children, 100 of whom were on the program’s waiting list.

Donors can bring the clothing items to the offices of the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce on East College Street in Columbiana, the Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce on County Services Drive in Pelham, the Calera Chamber of Commerce on U.S. 31 or the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce on Oak Street.

The chambers will collect clothing donations until Dec. 11, when they will be sorted and distributed to local children.

Though the Salvation Army is seeking all types of children’s clothing, it is specifically asking for boy’s and girl’s infant clothing for ages 3 months to 2 years, diaper sizes 1-5 and Pull-ups sizes 2T, 3T and 4T.

Pants, sweaters, jackets and shirts in toddler sizes 2T, 3T, 4T and 5T are also needed. As are children’s clothing sizes 6-16.

“We need all sizes, but mostly 7-8 and 10-12 sweaters, jackets, pants, jeans, long-sleeved shirts and tops,” read a Salvation Army press release. “We could also use underwear, socks and pajamas for all the above sizes.”
