Vincent officials not interested in citizens

Dear Editor,

White Rock Mining claims that they will bring 125 jobs to Vincent. They will bring three or four of their own managers and the rest will be hired locally.

If that’s true, they will have more employees than any other quarry in the state. Most quarries only require 50 to 60 employees to operate. OK. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

But if the rock quarry comes, there is a good possibility that we will lose EBSCO Industries. That’s 225 jobs. So we have lost at least 100 jobs. Not only that, we will convert Vincent from a farming town into a mining town. Once again, we sacrifice the many (about 1,600 residents) for the few who get one of the jobs.

How could this happen? It’s what happens when small governments become more interested in dollars from a large company than in the well-being of its citizens.
