The University of Montevallo board of trustees voted unanimously to accept the resignation of University President Philip Williams during a brief Nov. 25 meeting.

Earlier this month, Williams, who has been in the position since 2006, announced he planned to return to the university from a sabbatical Jan. 4 and leave his position July 31, 2010.

During the meeting, the board also appointed a 10-person search committee to seek Williams’ replacement, according to the university’s public relations department.

The committee will aim to have the new president seated the day after Williams leaves the university.
