A medical supply warehouse in Alabaster’s Shelby West Corporate Park will bring at least 65 new jobs, and will mark a more than $7 million investment in the county, according to area economic development officials.

Ohio-based Logan Creek Construction is scheduled to complete a 121,500-square-foot distribution warehouse for the Fresenius Medical Care Company in Jan. 2010.

The project will be on a 13.8-acre site in the Shelby West Corporate Park, and is expected to bring more than $2.7 in new payroll to the county.

“We were seeking a location that combined excellent infrastructure and low operating costs,” said Ed Harmon, a Fresenius spokesman. “We like suburban locations outside major cities.”

The Alabaster Industrial Development Board recently approved about $450,000 in incentives for the project, which includes an abatement of sales tax on construction materials and a four-year abatement of the non-education portion of property taxes.

“We travel the country for site selection, and we always enjoy working with friendly Southern cities that are able to respond quickly with our need to deliver a quality project on time,” said Fresenius Director of Development Steve Harmon.

Rep. Cam Ward, R¬–Alabaster, praised Alabaster’s elected officials, said the project will help strengthen the Alabaster and Shelby County economies.

“The elected leadership of the city of Alabaster has established a goal of building a stronger commercial base in our city,” Ward said. “Fresenius Medical Company will be a great addition to the Shelby County and Alabaster family.”
