Williams deserves better from trustees

Dear Editor,

As a University of Montevallo alum, I am shocked and dismayed at the Board of Trustees decision to remove President Williams.

Normally, when a president experiences such widespread success and popularity, he or she is decorated, promoted or at the very least allowed to remain at his or her post. In this case, the Board of Trustees ignored the pleas of faculty, staff and students.

The members of the Board of Trustees have consistently used openly deceitful tactics in an effort to exclude those who get in the way of their carefully calculated plans. It’s discouraging when one realizes just how close to home the web of corruption can spread.

President Williams will return in January to finish his term under the yoke of a humiliating agreement that bars him from all but the most mundane activities.

Between now and the end of his term in July 2010, who will stand up and hold the Board of Trustees accountable for their reprehensible actions? Who among us will remind them that cronyism and nepotism will not be tolerated on our doorsteps?
