Cornerstone boys, girls sweep Coosa Valley

J.V. McKinney poured in 37 points and added three steals to lead the Cornerstone Christian School Chargers to a 66-48 region victory over the visiting Coosa Valley Rebels.

Colton Wingard added 10 points and six rebounds. Stephen Bulger finished with seven points and eight rebounds as the Chargers improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1.

Sam Bullard led three Coosa Valley players in double digits with 14 points. John Bullen added 11 points and Gage Holmes chipped in with 10 points as the Rebels fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in Region 1.

Cornerstone used a strong first half to take a 34-22 lead, but Coosa Valley responded with a strong third quarter to cut the lead to 45-38. The Chargers were dominant in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rebels 21-10, to pull out the win.

GIRLS

Chelsey Dunnaway led four Cornerstone players in double digits with 16 points and added seven rebounds as the Chargers defeated Coosa Valley 53-38 in a key region contest.

Cornerstone led 24-18 at the half and used a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Rebels 17-8 to pull out the victory.

Nichole Davis and Kailey Goodwin added 12 points each and Destiny Dillard added 10 points to lead the Chargers.

Amelia Ripley led Coosa Valley with 12 points. Lauren Archer added 10 points for the Rebels.
