Sam Maniscalco, Jr.

Sam Joseph Maniscalco, Jr., 77, went peacefully to his home in heaven from his home on earth in Alabaster on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.
He is survived by his son, Vincent J. Maniscalco; daughter, Maria Juliano (Jay); granddaughter, Leanna Julaino, all of Alabaster, and Like family, Lia (David) and their children, Paul and Joe Lovoy of Jemison; sister, Lorine Alesci; brother, Lee Maniscalco (Anna Rose); sister, Susie Carpenter; brother, Charlie Maniscalco (Dorothy); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all of Birmingham.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam J. Maniscalco, Sr. and Josephine Passantino; and brother, Paul Maniscalco, all of Birmingham.
Sam was special person to all who knew him. He was a loving, caring, giving and thoughtful father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
We will all miss him and his love.
After 42 years of services at Home Baking Company, Sam retired and decided he needed a hobby. He chose giving a gold dollar to children and adults that he wanted to see smile and there were many smiles.
Many thanks to Father Ray Dunmyer, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, and Derek Smith, visiting eucharistic minister, where Sam was a member.
Also, the family is very grateful to the staff of Care First Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo with the rosary at 8 p.m.
Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with Father Ray Dunmyer officiating.
