Pelham, Oak Mountain to meet for Shelby County girls title

Three Pelham High School Lady Panthers scored in double figures to help Pelham advance to the championship game of the Shelby County basketball tournament Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a 68-56 win Dec. 21 over rival Thompson in the semifinals.

Pelham will face Oak Mountain in the championship game at Bank Trust Arena on the University of Montevallo campus. The Eagles defeated Briarwood Christian 41-29 in the semifinals Monday.

Katelyn Speights led the Panthers (11-3) with 18 points. Lindsey Young added 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Ally Slaughter finished with 15 points.

Ashley Wilson led Thompson with 15 points. Asia Anchrum added 11 points and Amanda White and Rachel Lawley chipped in 10 points each.

Marisa Tomaszewski led Oak Mountain (12-3) with 23 points in the Eagles 41-29 win over Briarwood.

Anna Handlin and Julia Hoke led the Lions with eight points each.

BOYS

Oak Mountain 61, Chelsea 37

The Eagles advanced to the boys’ championship game Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. with the win over the Hornets. Oak Mountain will face Shelby County, which defeated Thompson 78-63 in the semifinals Monday night.

Cary Baxter led Oak Mountain (10-2) with 25 points and nine rebounds.

Eli Bashour led Chelsea with 10 points.

Ty Lollar led the Wildcats (9-2) with 27 points. Jordan Simon added 24 points.

Kenny Johnson and Josh Neville led Thompson with 17 points each. Bernard Smith added 14 points.

Pelham 57, Briarwood Christian 53 (OT)

Tanner Rice led the Panthers (6-8) with 19 points in Pelham’s win in the consolation bracket. Tyler Minyard added 12 points.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions with 12 points.

Spain Park 57, Austin 51

Matthew Bowerman led the Jaguars with 19 points in the quarterfinal round of the Sneaky Pete’s Jaguar Classic.
