The Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department will hold registration for several city sports over the next month, and is looking for coaches for three city leagues.

Registration for the city’s baseball, softball and soccer leagues will begin Jan. 11, and will run through Jan. 23.

Participants for all three sports can register between 8 a.m.-6 p.m. from Jan. 11-22 at the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Depot Street in Alabaster, and can register between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Veterans Park maintenance shop off Alabama 119 South.

The department will not hold registration Jan. 18, as city offices will be closed for Martin Luther King Day.

Baseball and softball leagues will be held for ages 4-14, and soccer leagues will be held for children who turned 4 before Aug. 1, 2009.

First-time participants must provide a copy of their birth certificate while registering.

The city will also begin its Start Smart Basketball program Jan. 12. Start Smart is a six-week program designed to teach children ages 3 and 4 basketball fundamentals, while allowing their parents to work with them one-on-one.

The recreation department is also seeking coaches for the city’s spring baseball, softball and soccer leagues. Coaching applications must be turned in by Jan. 22, and are also available on the city’s Web site.
