Montevallo High School will recommend Auburn High School offensive coordinator Jamie Williams as its new head football coach, Montevallo High School Principal Derek Dearman said Tuesday.

Dearman said Williams will be introduced to the MHS Booster Club Tuesday and has already met with the current Montevallo players and coaches.

“(Williams) is a person with multiple certifications and is a very promising young football coach,” Dearman said. “Upon an opening at Montevallo High School, he will be our recommendation to the (Shelby County) Board of Education to fill our current head football coaching vacancy.”

Williams helped Auburn High School to a 13-1 record in 2009. The Tigers fell 13-9 to Prattville in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A semifinals. Auburn averaged more than 35 points per game during the 2009 season.

Williams has been at Auburn High School since 2001. Williams has served in a variety of assistant football coaching positions, including his current position as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Williams has also coached at Fort Walton Beach High School and Eufaula High School. He played collegiately at Auburn University and in high school at Bullock Memorial High School in Union Springs, Ala.

Williams, who lettered as a defensive back at Auburn in 1993 and 1994, currently teaches earth science and physical science at Auburn High School.

Williams replaces Mike Reynolds, who announced his resignation in November after only one year at the school. Reynolds led the Bulldogs to a 4-7 record and a first-round appearance in the Class 3A playoffs in 2009. Reynolds will remain in his physical education teaching position until the end of the school year.
