Rise to your challenge

Every year, like most people, I make the same resolution and it sticks for about a month.

I’ve decided that this year I’m going to do things a little differently. First off, I think its best if we call it a New Year’s challenge or goal instead of resolution, since the point is to meet a goal you set and take on a new challenge.

Secondly, I believe we should set yearly goals for our job, our personal life and others.

For example, with your career or job, find a way to save your company money or implement new programs or services.

It can be something as small as getting to know more people in your professional field by joining a group or organization that can help you further your career.

With your personal life goal, don’t make the same resolutions you make every year. Try something new and set a goal that is completely out of your comfort zone.

Maybe you’ve never been a runner but always thought about running a 5K. Start training and do it!

Maybe you need more balance in your life; make a schedule for yourself, your family and your job and stick to it. It doesn’t matter what the goal is, just make sure it’s something that makes an impact in your own life.

As for others, I believe we all need to do something to help change the lives of people around us. I recently began reading a book that talks about how humans need other humans in order to have a fulfilling life. Without others, you have nobody to share with, laugh with, work with or love.

This made me realize I needed to set a goal to make an impact in at least one person’s life other than my own. If everyone set a goal to volunteer more and give more to other people, I truly believe we would all lead happier and more fulfilling lives.

It doesn’t matter what goals you set for 2010. It just matters that you stick to them. Prove to yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to.
