Pelham grapplers top Spain Park

The Pelham High School wrestling team picked up a 63-18 win over Spain Park in high school wrestling action Jan. 14.

The Panthers’ Cody Wehunt pinned Spain Park’s Conrad Hathcoat in 1:46 in the 130-pound match. Pelham’s Taylor Anchors pinned Martin Stone of Spain Park in 4:14 in the 145-pound match. Hudson Pitts of Pelham pinned Alec Hudson of Spain Park in 42 seconds in the 152-pound match. Pelham’s P.J. Williams earned a 6-4 decision over Blake Daniel of Spain Park in the 160-pound match.

Chandler Wood, Robby Brantley, Logan Huey, Chase Mote, Aubrey Hamilton, Drew Myers and Jordan Ward of Pelham each won by forfeit.

Spain Park’s Tommy Bostany pinned Chandler Heard of Pelham in 3:59 in the 112-pound match. The Jaguars’ Robbie Howard pinned Nolan Vinson of Pelham in 2:30 in the 140-pound match. Kameron Ricks of Spain Park pinned Pelham’s Brooks Haley in 2:42 in the 189-pound match.

Wood, Huey, Wehunt, Anchors, Pitts, Hamilton and Zach Freeze of Pelham also earned wins as the Panthers fell 36-29 to Gardendale. Wehunt and Hamilton each pinned their Gardendale opponent.

Tommy Bostany and Kameron Ricks each won by pin against their Gardendale opponents as the Jaguars fell 67-12 to Gardendale.

Thompson sweeps Shelby County

Twelve Thompson wrestlers picked up wins over their Shelby County foes as the Warriors came away with an 84-0 win over the Wildcats.

Matthew Gilson, Austin Gould, Nick Lowe, Brewer Gilliland, Jalen Wesley, Nick Hall, John Austin Jones, Landon Vincent, Nick Gentile, Chris Walker, Jesse Masters and Jimmy Miller of Thompson each pinned their Shelby County opponent.

The Warriors’ DeMario Haynes and Nick Parten each won by forfeit against the Wildcats.

Shelby County rebounded with a closer meet with Chilton County before falling 48-33.

The Wildcats’ Josh Reid pinned his 189-pound opponent. Gerald Nichols pinned his 171-pound Chilton County foe and Nathan Herrington won by pin in his 135-pound match. Jeffrey Hughes won by decision, while Tommy Eremus and Nathan Sawyer each won by forfeit against Chilton County.
