Pelham holds off Hueytown

The Pelham High School boys’ basketball team held off Hueytown to pick up a 55-52 win Jan. 16 over the Golden Gophers on the road.

Sophomore Xavier Lacey and junior Tony Williams led Pelham (8-14) with 17 points each. Tanner Rice and Jordan Brooks added six points each.

Leading 53-52 with 11 seconds remaining, junior Graham Reilly hit both ends of one-and-one at the free-throw line to give the Panthers a three-point advantage.

Hueytown’s 3-point attempt by Cordarius Samples with three seconds left missed the mark and Pelham rebounded to escape with the win.

Briarwood Christian 66, McAdory 43

Luke Collins and Justin Bice led the Lions (11-11) with 16 points each. James Palmer and Kalan Reed added 10 points each. Collins finished with 11 assists.

Westminster 56, Whitesburg Christian 47

Jake Doggett led the Knights (4-16) with 21 points. Jeffrey Stanford added 14 points and Richard Robey chipped in 11 points.

Evangel Christian 55, Covenant Christian 40

Aaron Walker led the Lightning (11-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds. J.R. Coronado added 17 points.

GIRLS

Briarwood Christian 55, McAdory 45

Laura Gilbert led the Lions (11-9) with 13 points. Anna Handlin added nine points.

Evangel Christian 48, Covenant Christian 36

Junior Abby Letson paced the Lightning (12-0) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Walker and Rainey Ketcham added 10 points each.
