Oak Mountain wrestlers improve to 36-1 overall

The Oak Mountain High School wrestling squad improved to 36-1 in dual meets this season as the Eagles captured the championship Jan. 23 at the Robert E. Lee Round Robin Duals in Montgomery.

Oak Mountain defeated host Robert E. Lee 41-25 in the championship dual meet. Jake Smith, Jesse Smith, Tanner Moon, Reid Bishop, Jared Woodall, Justin Woodall, Brad Kirkpatrick and Whit Whitfield each helped the Eagles secure the title.

Jesse Smith, Moon, Jared Woodall and Justin Woodall each won by pin. Bishop and Whitfield each won by decision, while Jake Smith and Kirkpatrick won by forfeit.

Th Eagles also defeated Brusly, La., Tuscaloosa County and Thompson during the Duals. The win over the Warriors was the 100th career win for the senior class, which includes Moon, Bishop, Jared Woodall, Kirkpatrick, Whitfield, Ronnie Ashley, Victor Kimbrough, Adam Hicks, Josh Greer and Adam Beaton.

Oak Mountain also captured the title Jan. 16 at the Grissom Duals. At Grissom, the Eagles defeated Briarcrest, Tenn., Mountain Brook, Sparkman and host Grissom. The win over Sparkman was the 100th career victory for Oak Mountain coach Steve Burrough.
