Local Boy Scouts will be working Feb. 6 to collect food for those in need throughout the Birmingham metropolitan area.

The Shelby District of the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America will collect food throughout the day at the Alabaster Salvation Army food bank at 108 Plaza Circle.

The food drive will be part of the Greater Alabama Council’s “100 tons for 100 years” project, during which scouts throughout the area will attempt to collect 100 tons of canned and non-perishable food items by the end of February.

During the food drive, the scouts will be working toward their goal of “serving other people at all times by providing a needed service in the communities that are impacted by scouting,” according to a Greater Alabama Council press release.

Anyone interested in donating to the food drive should contact the Alabaster Salvation Army at 663-7105.
