Basketball playoffs in full swing

Nineteen Shelby County high school basketball teams remain in the hunt for a championship with the playoffs in full swing over the next three weeks.

Five boys’ teams and five girls’ teams begin play in the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs Feb. 11-12 with sub-regional games. Two boys’ teams and three girls’ teams remain alive in the Alabama Independent Schools Association playoffs Thursday and Friday in Elite Eight action. Four teams are playing in the Alabama Christian Sports Conference tournament this weekend.

AHSAA

Girls open play Feb. 11 in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA playoffs. Oak Mountain (25-6) will travel to Homewood for a Class 6A sub-regional contest. Briarwood Christian (18-11) will host Selma and Chelsea (14-16) will travel to Carver High School in Montgomery for Class 5A sub-regional games.

Calera (4-18) will travel to Ramsay for a Class 4A sub-regional contest. Montevallo (21-8) will travel to LaFayette for a Class 3A sub-regional matchup. Tip-off time for every game is 7 p.m.

Boys’ sub-regional games will be held Feb. 12. Oak Mountain (20-7) will host Homewood and Spain Park (22-10) will travel to Mountain Brook for Class 6A sub-regional games. Shelby County (20-5) will host Carver High School of Montgomery in a Class 5A sub-regional contest.

Calera (14-15) will travel to Midfield for a Class 4A sub-regional game. Vincent (21-7) will host Woodland in a Class 2A sub-regional contest. Tip-off time for every game is 7 p.m.

AISA

Teams from Cornerstone Christian School and Coosa Valley Academy will travel to Huntingdon College in Montgomery for AISA Class 1A Elite Eight games Feb. 11.

The Cornerstone girls (19-3) will face Restoration Academy in an Elite Eight game at 10 a.m. The Cornerstone boys (24-0) will meet Sparta Academy in an Elite Eight contest at 11:30 a.m.

The Coosa Valley girls (16-9) will meet Sparta Academy in an Elite Eight game at 1 p.m. The Coosa Valley boys (17-10) will face Warrior Academy at 2:30 p.m.

The Kingwood Christian School girls (17-6) will meet Glenwood Academy in an AISA Class 3A Elite Eight contest Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. at Faulkner University in Montgomery.

ACSC

The Hope Christian School boys (13-8) will face the Tuscaloosa Home Educators in the semifinals of the Alabama Christian Sports Conference tournament Feb. 12. The Hope Christian girls (15-5) will meet Evangel Family Christian School in the semifinals Feb. 12.

The Evangel Christian School boys and girls will also play in the ACSC semifinals Feb. 12. The Evangel boys (19-2) will face The Rock School, while the Evangel girls (17-1) will meet the Tuscaloosa Home Educators.

The ACSC girls championship game will be held Feb. 13 at noon at Samford University. The boys championship game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
