The curtain fell on another 20-win season for the Shelby County High School boys’ basketball team Feb. 13 with the Wildcats falling 77-56 to Carver High School of Montgomery in a Class 5A sub-regional game in the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs.

In a rematch of last year’s sub-regional game, the Wolverines came knocking again and the Wildcats gave it their best shot.

Charles Dickinson Gymnasium, filled to capacity, was bursting at the seams with excitement. However, it was the intensity and athleticism of the Wolverines that was the deciding factor.

Tae Lewis led the Wildcats (20-6) with a 16-point outing. Jordan Simon added 15 points. Ty Lollar chipped in 11 points.

A first half that saw its share of rim-shaking dunks by the Wolverines also saw the pesky Wildcats bring the tally to within two points as intermission approached.

However, a 10-2 run to close out the second quarter gave the Wolverines a 33-20 lead going into the half.

Two points were as close at the Wildcats could come as the Wolverines slowly expanded their lead in the second half.
