Save the Oak Mtn. tree tunnel for its beauty

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter because I believe the tree tunnel in Pelham needs to be saved. Recently, I noticed the tree tunnel is beginning to be cut down. The tree tunnel is located on Oak Mountain Park road. During the changing of the seasons there is nothing like the beauty of the tunnel.

We have many buildings in Pelham that are for rent or lease. There is no reason for anyone to destroy our beautiful landmarks in Shelby County, to make room for more buildings. We should be encouraging business owners to use buildings that are already built.

The stretch of road that the tree tunnel is on is also the unofficial gateway to Oak Mountain State Park. I would like to make the drive to the park a beautiful one. Another reason to preserve the tree tunnel is the amount of traffic more buildings will bring. On Oak Mountain Park road there is already a lot of traffic during peak hours, I cannot imagine the amount there will be once the new building is finished.

Many times I have been having a bad day, and driven through the tunnel and been amazed by the beauty of it. I want others to share in that happiness as well.
