Alabama frontman Randy Owen to headline Davis family benefit concert at WorkPlay

Randy Owen of the hit country group Alabama will headline a benefit concert to help retire the mortgage for fallen Pelham Police officer Philip Davis’ family that will be held Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at WorkPlay in Birmingham.

More than a dozen artists will come together with country musician Mark Collie for an evening that will also feature a silent auction comprised of sports memorabilia, tickets and prizes.

Collie, a Nashville veteran singer, songwriter and actor, became a mainstream country artist in the 1990s, with hits including “Even the Man in the Moon is Crying.”

The night will also feature Matt Kennon, whose latest single “The Call” is currently on the American Country Top 40 Charts; Ronnie Bowman, who has penned numerous top country songs such as Kenny Chesney’s “Never Wanted Nothing More” and Brooks and Dunn’s “It Gets Better All the Time;” J.T. Hodges, an emerging singer and songwriter who was recently signed by Rob Thomas to his Rtel label on Epic Records; an all-star band comprised of members of country bands Blackhawk, The Mavericks, BR5-49 and The Grand Ole Opry Band; M-80s, a Birmingham area’80s rock band; and 2 Blu and the Lucky Stiffs, an area blues band and a multiple time winner of the Magic City Blues contest.

The silent auction will include:

-Uncirculated, never before sold artist proof of Paul “Bear” Bryant by Robert Hollingsworth.

-Items provided by PGA Golfer Stewart Cink, including: 2009 PGA Signed President’s Cup Team Flag, signed by Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Jay Haas, Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson, Sean O’Hair, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Lucas Glover and Hunter Mahan; and the No. 18 pin flag from 2009 British Open signed by the winner, Stewart Cink. (Final bids on PGA items donated by Stewart Cink will be taken at a charity golf event scheduled for April 29 at Ballantrae Golf Course.)
