The Hope Christian School Lady Eagles’ basketball team recently played in the National Association of Christian Athletes championship and brought home the Division IV championship by defeating the Eastland (Fla.) Christian Hurricanes in overtime, 33-29.

Senior Judi Vigneulle, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, sank five free throws in overtime to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Vigneulle scored a team-high 17 points in the championship game, including a 7-of-10 performance from the free-throw line. Brooke Machen had six points in the win.

Joy Vigneulle and Hannah Rettig each led the Eagles in rebounds with six apiece.

The Eagles defeated Chattanooga Christian, 30-21, to advance to the championship game.

In the win over Chattanooga, Olivia Machen had a team-high 10 points, while also finishing with six steals. Judi Vigneulle was next for the Eagles with six points, five rebounds and four steals.

Prior to defeating Chattanooga, the Eagles fell to Eastland in pool play, 27-22.

Although the Eagles held the Hurricanes to no field goals in the second half, Eastland’s seven-point halftime lead proved to be enough.

Machen led the Eagles in the loss with six points, followed by Terri Moore with four points. Moore led the Eagles in rebounds with nine, while the Vigneulles had five apiece.

In the opening game of the tournament for the Eagles, Hope easily took care of Chattanooga’s B-team, 42-13.

Machen led all Eagles with 14 points, followed by Joy Vigneulle with eight points.

Moore led the Eagles in rebounds and steals, with six and nine respectively.

Joy Vigneulle was named the tournament’s Offensive MVP, while Olivia Machen, Moore, Rettig and Brook Machen were named to the All-Tournament team.
