Panthers post top-five finishes at Pelham Speed Meet

The Pelham High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams each posted a top-five finish March 11 at the Pelham Speed Meet.

The Pelham girls’ team came in third overall in the team standings with 82 points. Auburn captured the title with 220 points.

The Panthers’ 400-meter relay team finished third with a time of 53.94.

Alex Stanek captured the pole vault title with a leap of 9 feet, 6 inches. Taylor Davis of Pelham finished third in the long jump with an attempt of 14 feet, 5 1/4 inches.

Vicki Gater finished third in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 4 inches.

Julianne Huff claimed third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.61 seconds. Brianna Gunn finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.65.

Dena O’Brien came in second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.97.

Shelby County High School athlete Jackie Head finished second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:25.29.

Briarwood Christian School’s Danielle Castille finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.90 seconds. The Lions’ 3,200-meter relay team claimed third place with a time of 11:14.06.

Vincent High School athlete Devona Kidd finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.21 seconds. The Yellow Jackets’ Simone Robertson came in third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.04 seconds.

The Pelham High School boys’ team finished fourth overall in the team standings with 64 points. Auburn won the title with 200 points.

The Pelham boys’ 400-meter dash relay team claimed first place with a time of 43.35 seconds. The Panthers’ 1,600-meter relay also finished first with a time of 3:34.26.

Fabian Traylor finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66 seconds. Rob Johnson claimed first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.45 seconds.

Briarwood Christian School athlete Joseph Darwin finished third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:59.60. The Lions’ Kalan Reed claimed second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.25 seconds.
